Now Recruiting: Beach Cleanup Captains

Behind every successful beach cleanup is someone making it all happen—welcoming volunteers, setting the tone, and ensuring every piece of debris gets counted and removed. That someone could be you.

We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to step into the role of Beach Cleanup Captain—the day-of leaders who bring our community cleanups to life. Our cleanups are consistent and community-driven, with the chapter hosting one cleanup a month, rotating between Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Dockweiler Beach. 

What does a Beach Cleanup Captain do?
Captains are the go-to leaders on cleanup day. They:

• Transport beach cleanup supplies to and from storage and the event site
• Set up the cleanup site and greet volunteers
• Collaborate with core volunteers supporting the event, assigning roles and ensuring the event runs smoothly 
• Lead a brief orientation on safety and data collection to volunteers
• Facilitate a positive, inclusive, and impactful experience for everyone involved

Who are we looking for?
You don’t need prior experience—just reliability, clear communication, and a willingness to take initiative. If you’re organized, friendly, and care about keeping our beaches clean, you’re already a strong candidate.

Requirements for the role include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs
• Must have a vehicle able to transport a 10x10 tent, tables, chairs, and other supplies
• Must commit to a minimum of one year and lead 4-6 cleanups a year
