Stop Intentional Balloon Releases in North Carolina

Goal: Prevent plastic pollution caused by release and improper disposal of balloons into the environment

Balloon litter is an environmental nuisance that can pose significant danger to wildlife and farmed animals, and that is also a threat to public welfare because it contributes microplastics to soil and waterways. SB20 was introduced in January 2025 into the North Carolina General Assembly to make it illegal to intentionally release balloons into the environment and not clean them up.
